Why and how Scouting

Scouting is the official activity arm of the Aaronic Priesthood. You may have heard it called Aaronic Priesthood Scouting or APS. If you're into the gospel, you're into scouting! They are complementary. Scouting is needed today more than it's ever been needed.

Scouting has specific aims or goals:

THE AIMS OF SCOUTING

  • Aim I--To build character
  • Aim II--To foster citizenship
  • Aim III--To develop fitness
To achieve these aims, various methods have been developed over the years:

THE METHODS OF SCOUTING

  • Ideals - Scout Oath, Scout Law, motto, slogan
  • Patrols - where boys are in a gang, where they compete and become a team
  • Outdoors - where boys need to be away from computers, TVs and experience this world
  • Advancement - Gain self-confidence and learn new skills and are rewarded
  • Personal Growth - Learn how to interact, accomplish and learn
  • Adult Association - Have examples of men they can be like
  • Leadership Development - Experience leadership
  • The Uniform - Identify with an International group
