Citizenship in the Community - 3 earned tonight

Well, glory be! We had three scouts earn and pass off their Citizenship in the Community merit badge tonight. Congratulations to Erik McEntyer, Ethan Willden and Derek Williams. They're one step closer to earning their 100th anniversary patch as well as closer to the rank of Eagle.

Citizenship in the Community

Well, over the last three months, we have been discussing the Citizenship in the Community merit badge. This is a required merit badge for the Eagle rank as well as a requirement for the 100th anniversary of the BSA. This coming Wednesday night I will be taking appointments from your son to have him present his knowledge and show he has completed the requirements. If you are interested in your son earning this merit badge, I would suggest you review the requirements and have him prepared to meet with me, his merit badge counselor. We will be moving on to other merit badges beginning next week and we would appreciate your desire to have your son earn this badge after the work we have put in as leaders. This will require you review and prepare your son for his visit with the 'merit badge counselor' this Wednesday. We offered scouts a blue merit badge card at church this Sunday, which they will need to complete prior to their meeting with me on Wednesday. If you have any questions concerning your son fulfilling the requirements, please let me know. For your information, your son, if he has been active in his priesthood calling has completed 8 hours of community service for a charitable organization by serving the members of the ward in Sacrament meetings and Fast Offering collections, as well as cleaning the building on a Saturday. Hopefully he was able to attend the court we attended in South Ogden and was able to discuss various things with the judge that day. Your son will just have to do exactly what the merit badge requirements are with the counselor this Wednesday. The Movie, all 133 minutes

Well, we watched the movie, Follow me boys, for our Citizenship in the community merit badges. Three requirements down and on we move toward earning this merit badge. Thanks to the parents for letting the scouts know the new location. Hopefully, we didn't keep them up late. This was a fun, wholesome movie and hopefully the scouts learned a little about service in the community. This particular movie was about a person who volunteered to be a scout master and the boys who were so enthusiastic about membership in the troop (club, team).

Winter Campout 2009 - Bott's Camp

Well, it's become a tradition to go camping the first of November at Bott's campground in South Fork. Eric Tuttle went up after lunch to reserve a campground. Thank goodness because the place filled up with other scout troops for the first time. There were 3 other troops camping with us this year. Dad's were invited and we had John B. and Chad W. which was nice. Eric Tuttle, assistant scout master brought his 4 year old son James and he was a really camper. Most of the scouts came ill prepared, some without coats and gloves, while others wore shorts - go figure at 30 degrees in the morning. Pray for them! Some of the meals were interesting too, Subway sandwiches for supper and breakfast. Talk about creative scout cooking skills. Oh well. Congratulations to Eric McEntire who was practicing his scouting skills, who wore a coat and cooked his meal; hamburger on the grill for supper and scrambled eggs for breakfast. We arrived around 6:00 p.m. and proceeded to set up camp, then eat. We played murder around the campfire and headed to bed by 10:00. The coat-less scouts were up at 5:30 a.m. starting a fire. Not sure if they had two sleeping bags and/or blankets for their sleeping bags. The scoutmaster had two scrambled egg omlets and hot chocolate. Many scouts were envious. After breakfast activities included horseshoes, checkers, BB Gun target practice, swinging from a rope hanging from a tree and hanging out. We packed up by 11:00 and were home by noon. The troop provided stoves, pots and pans, cleaning equipment, firewood and fire log (nice to have a couple to get things going).

Cycling fun in the fall

Well, we've just completed our 3rd bike ride in the last two months. Rick took the scouts to South Ogden for a 10 miler. Last week we took a 10 miler on the Legacy Parkway Trail and this week we took a 15 miler on the trail. What a beautiful trail and safe too.





No cars to hit us. It was great. Except we've had 3 accidents on the bike trail and none on the street ride. Go figure.










If we keep it up, we'll have two 10-milers, two 15-milers, two 25-miles and next summer we can do a 50-miler. Each scout will qualify for the cycling merit badge, a great accomplishment and fun thing to do!
